Today was the last day of the Wichita River Festival, but it was also the first and only day of the 10-day event that Ron and I went, even though it's only about three miles away from our apartment. All of the river events were canceled (you know... things like the bathtub races, raft races, etc.) because the river is swollen out of its banks. The ArKANSAS River, that is.
Anyway, the reason we went to the festival was because I was volunteering at the Wichita Eagle booth, selling (yesterday's) papers (because today's weren't delivered), umbrellas with the comics on them, and subscriptions. Usually, we go a couple of times and try to enjoy more of the festival.
I was working with another lady, someone who works in the subscription office. One of the guys who rode by on his bike was asking if we had today's paper. We said no, but we had yesterday's (smile, laugh). We asked him if he would like a subscription, and he said he didn't have a house. He asked if we delivered the paper anywhere, and when we asked where he wanted it delivered, he said, "Well, they could throw it off the side of the bridge and I could get it there." Apparently everything he owned was in the buggy he was towing behind his bike. Sad.
